Seasonal/Temporary Wildland Engine Boss

Responsibilities:  The seasonal/temporary Wildland Engine Boss will be responsible for all aspects of their assigned engine to include the training and supervision of crew and to ensure equipment is in good condition and properly maintained.    

Requirements:  Must be currently a certified Engine Boss (Certificates of training and completed task book must be provided), have the ability to pass NWCG  Arduous Work Capacity Test (Pack Test), possess a valid Driver’s License with an insurable driving history, have a high school diploma or GED certificate and be 18 years of age or older.  Preference  will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:   S-215 Wildland Urban Interface, S-211 Wildland Pumps, S-212 Wildland Chain Saws, Faller 2 Certification (previously Faller B) and Structural Firefighter Certification.  Residency required within a distance from the City of Spearfish adequate to meet a 30 minute response time.

Part-Time Public Works/Parks Laborer

Responsibilities:  The Public Works/Parks Laborer will work for both Parks and Public Works departments doing manual laborer duties to include snow removal, lawn and grounds care, facility maintenance, assisting with utility field and street/airport operations as assigned.  Position will normally work two days a week (M-F) with a flexible schedule.   

Requirements:  Experience with lawn and grounds care, snow removal, and minor maintenance.    Possession or ability to obtain a valid south Dakota Class 1B Commercial Driver’s License within 90 days of hire.  Insurable driving history. High school diploma or GED equivalent.  Residency required within a distance from the City of Spearfish adequate to meet a 30 minute response time.

The City of Spearfish 2017 Summer/Seasonal Positions

Recreation and Aquatics Center:

Requirements:  Tennis Instructors, and Lifeguards must be 16 years of age or older.  All other positions must be 18 years of age or older before date of hire.  Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving history.  Starting wage $8.65-$9.50 per hour.  Hours can be weather dependent.     

Public Works Department Laborers:

Requirements:  Laborers will work 40 hours per week unless noted otherwise.  Applicants must be 18 years of age or older before date of hire.  Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving history.  Starting wage $9.50 per hour.
