The mission of the Human Resource Department is to support the goals and challenges of the employees and departments of the City of Spearfish by providing services which promote a work environment characterized by fair treat- ment of staff, open communications, personal accountability, trust and mutual respect.

The Human Resource office will assist in attracting, developing, motivating and retaining quality employees, providing a competitive compensation program, providing a competitive benefit package in a cost efficient manner, assuring compliance with applicable employment laws, assisting in the resolution of problems when conflicts arise, promoting safety awareness in the workplace and assisting in risk management techniques that protect the City’s monetary resources.

The City of Spearfish has four sectors which include:  Public Services (Public Works, Human Resources, Finance and the Library), Parks and Recreation (Recreation and Aquatics Center, Parks and Recreation, Campground, and the Cemetery), Public Safety (Police and Fire), Business Development (Building Inspection, Engineering, and Planning and Zoning) with  approximately 140 regular employees to serve the residents and visitors of Spearfish.  On a seasonal basis,  the City adds approximately 110 seasonal employees within the Public Services, Parks and Recreation, and Public Safety sectors.
