Appointment of Members

This Spearfish Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Advisory Board (SPRFAB) are individuals appointed by the Mayor consisting of up to nine community members serving three-year terms and two youth members serving one-year terms.

Duties & Responsibilities

With authority delegated by the Spearfish City Council, the SPRFAB shall be a tool of the City Council to be used as a channel for all concerns pertaining to parks, recreation and forestry issues within the city.  

The SPRFAB will advise and recommend to the City Council regarding: 

  • Provision, maintenance, administration, conduct, and support recreation, physical fitness, sports, and cultural programs, activities, opportunities and services
  • Acquisition, operation, supervision, use, maintenance, development and provide recreation and park areas and facilities
  • Advise the City Council on regulation for tree planting, removal, and maintenance of trees, bushes, shrubs, and other woody vegetation on public and private property
