Updated 4/21/22:

SPEARFISH, SD – Due to the spring snowstorm predictions for the weekend, it is likely that the Restricted Use (Rubble Site) would be closed Saturday and/or Sunday, due to inclement weather. This closure would interrupt access during the Free Spring Clean Up Days, currently scheduled for Friday through Sunday.

Public Works staff will continue to monitor the forecast, and notice will be sent out on Friday if the Restricted Use (Rubble) Site will be closed due to weather.

If the closure is necessary, the free days lost to inclement weather closure would be rescheduled for Friday, April 29, and Saturday, April 30.

SPEARFISH, SD – The Spearfish Restricted Use Site (RUS) will be waiving fees for residents of the City of Spearfish and Lawrence County on Friday, April 22, through Sunday, April 24, 2022.

The RUS will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during Spring Clean Up Days, and fees will be waived for residential disposal of all acceptable items on these days. Household waste will not be accepted. Regular fees apply to appliances containing freon and tires without rims. Refrigerators and freezers must have the doors removed upon drop-off. For more detailed information, including items not accepted at the site, please visit

The RUS is located north of Spearfish off of Highway 85 on Camp Comfort Road, which is 1.5 miles north of Interstate 90’s Exit 10.

For those needing assistance, City crews will offer a residential curbside pickup service on Thursday, April 21st for residents within City limits. Pickup is limited to three items and applies to items such as furniture, appliances without freon, weed eaters, and lawn mowers. Fluids must be removed from all items. Branches and yard waste will not be picked up. Items must be put out on the curb by 7 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, and curbside pickups must be scheduled in advance. Scheduling will begin on April 4. To schedule a pickup and provide item details, contact Utility Services at (605) 642-1325 or Public Works at (605) 642-1333. The deadline for scheduling a pickup is noon on Wednesday, April 20.
