SPEARFISH, SD – Spearfish Building Official Tom Paisley received the International Code Council (ICC) Upper Great Plains Region III 2021 Brent Snyder Award Thursday during the South Dakota Building Officials’ Association Summer Training at the Snapper’s Club in Spearfish City Campground.
The award acknowledges excellence in promoting professional development and is given in the memory of Brent Snyder, a renowned Code Council educator and Past Presiding Officer, whose 40 years of experience in code enforcement and training and calm and inspiring leadership qualities exemplified dedication and service to the public and his fellow code officials.

Building Official Paisley said. “I would like to thank my team for all their hard work in ensuring building safety as we continue to see record-breaking total building project valuation in Spearfish.”

Tom has exhibited his dedication to code training and made his contributions to training while relating his real-life experience to that training. He has shown himself dedicated to fostering uniform code enforcement through his many and varied training efforts. Tom is devoted to his friends and family, exhibits a healthy perspective on life, and throughout his work and life has continued to show that sense of humor that is uniquely his.
Paisley started his career with the City of Spearfish in May 1996 as a building inspector. He spent several years in this position before being promoted to Building Official in January 2000. Paisley is responsible for inspecting residential, commercial, and industrial structures within the City to ensure compliance with state and local building codes.
