SPEARFISH, SD - FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) recently completed a re-evaluation of the flood hazards in our community and has provided new Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM’s) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report which are effective March 22, 2023. The new floodplain mapping is based on updated topographic, and in some cases, revised hydrologic and hydraulic analysis.
Floodplain maps are periodically updated and revised to reflect changing condition, such as impacts of flooding, new topography, land development, updated mapping studies, and construction of floodplain improvements.
