SPEARFISH, SD – City utility customers will see a new $5.59 sewer surcharge fee on their utility bills as of January 1, 2024.
The resolution providing for the surcharge for improvements to the City’s wastewater system was adopted by the Spearfish City Council in February, became effective in March, and authorized the establishment, annual review, and use of a surcharge to pay for principal and interest payments of a borrower bond. The bond pays for wastewater conveyance and treatment improvements, which benefit all utility customers. The projects funded by the bond include fencing around the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), improvements to the equalization basin at the WWTP, and the sanitary sewer line upsize along Colorado Boulevard (phases 1-3).
The City Council will review the surcharge rate annually.
