[ARCHIVED] Spearfish Rec Center open with modified hours

Spearfish Rec Center open with modified hours

SPEARFISH, SD (June 1, 2020) – After completing Phase two of its reopening plan, Spearfish Rec Center staff are ready to start Phase three. Starting today, Monday, June 1, the facility is open with modified hours to patrons 12 and older (children younger than 12 are allowed with a parent/guardian).

The rec center is open from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Staff ask that each patron only utilize the facility for no more than 1.5 hours to allow the opportunity for other patrons to participate.

Currently, the facility capacity is a total of 88 patrons. This will be broken into the following areas: 34 patrons occupying the cardio equipment pods located in the Lookout Room; 10 pickleball players (2 courts will be available, 8 players and 2 subs); 5 patrons utilizing free weight workout pods; 4 patrons utilizing the batting cage; 10 patrons per court in the basketball gym; 10 patrons utilizing the walking track; and 5 patrons utilizing the Training Room. For patrons wanting to play pickleball, we recommend they visit spearfishpickleball.org for scheduling and registration.

Upon arrival, patrons will be asked to obtain a badge indicating which area they will be utilizing. Badges are located at the front desk. Once a workout is complete, the patron will return the badge to the front desk, where it will be cleaned and ready for the next person. After using the equipment, staff ask that the participant cleans it thoroughly.

At this time, the rec center is not offering any fitness classes or Hourly Care. Staff ask that participants follow social distancing recommendations.

All memberships will be active; patrons should bring their scan tag during their visit. Payments for recurring memberships will resume July 15, unless no payment processed in March. For those accounts, payments will resume June 15. The expiration dates of paid-in-full memberships will be extended to make up for the time the rec center was closed to the public.

“The staff would like to thank everyone for their continued support and asks everyone to please remain flexible and have patience as we develop a new normal,” Brett Rauterkus, Spearfish Recreation and Aquatics Center facility superintendent, said. “We are happy to receive feedback as we work through this process.”
