The City Attorney's office provides legal representation and advice to the City of Spearfish and its elected officials and staff.

  City Attorney Eric Davis

 After growing up in the Black Hills, Eric graduated from Spearfish High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Dakota. After college, Eric returned to Spearfish and served as the Executive Director of the Booth Society, a citizen-based nonprofit associated with the D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery and Archives. In 2007, Eric was elected to the Spearfish City Council, where he was elected Vice President of the Council and appointed chair of the Legal and Finance committee.

In 2010, Eric attended the University of South Dakota School of Law where he was Managing Editor of the South Dakota Law Review and a faculty research assistant. Eric also authored a law review article on municipal special assessments.

After several years in private practice, where he also served as Assistant City Attorney, Eric was appointed City Attorney in October 2015. 

Eric is licensed to practice law in South Dakota and admitted to practice in all courts in South Dakota and the United States District Court.
