City Attorney (Full-time)

Responsibilities:  The City Attorney (full-time) will act as chief legal officer to the Mayor, City Council, City Administrator, and City staff  to provide them with legal advice and guidance in all areas, legal and otherwise, pertaining to all aspects of City government, ordinances, resolutions, contracts, agreements, policy directives, and  day to day City operations. 
 
Requirements and preferred experience:  Graduation from an accredited school of law with Juris Doctor Degree required. Four (4) years’ experience of a responsible nature in the practice of law with considerable  experience involving municipalities, trying court and jury cases, preparing and reviewing contracts, pleadings, and laws or ordinances preferred; or any such combination of education/experience as may be acceptable to the hiring authority.  Admission to practice law in federal courts and in South Dakota state courts required.  Strong negotiation skills and tact preferred.  Possession of a valid driver’s license and clean driving history required.  Residency required within a distance from the City of Spearfish adequate to meet a thirty (30) minute response time requirement.

2018 Summer/Seasonal Positions

Recreation and Aquatics Center:

Requirements:  Tennis Instructors must be 16 years of age or older.  Facility Janitorial must be 18 years of age or older before date of hire.  Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving history.  Hours can be weather dependent. 

Public Works/Parks Department Laborers: 

Requirements:  Laborers will work 40 hours per week.   Applicants must be 18 years of age or older before date of hire.  Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving history.
