Wildland Firefighter (Seasonal/Temporary)

Responsibilities:  The seasonal/temporary Wildland Firefighter will respond to wildland fire emergency incidents, assist in wildland fire suppression, participate in fire prevention and educational activities, and pre-suppression activities including defensible space clearance, removal of hazard vegetation debris and equipment and facility maintenance.  

Requirements:  Candidates must have completed NWCG S-130 and S-190 training prior to start date (must provide proof of training), have the ability to pass NWCG Arduous Work Capacity Test (Pack Test), possess a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving history, have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and be 18 years of age or older.  Residency required within a distance from the City of Spearfish adequate to meet a 30 minute response time.

Wildland Engine Boss (Seasonal/Temporary)

Responsibilities:  The seasonal/temporary Wildland Engine Boss will be responsible for all aspects of their assigned engine to include the training and supervision of crew and to ensure equipment is in good condition and properly maintained.     
 
Requirements:  Must be currently a certified Engine Boss (Certificates of training and completed task book must be provided), have the ability to pass NWCG  Arduous Work Capacity Test (Pack Test), possess a valid Driver’s License with an insurable driving history, have a high school diploma or GED certificate and be 18 years of age or older.  Preference  will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:   S-215 Wildland Urban Interface, S-211 Wildland Pumps, S-212 Wildland Chain Saws, Faller 2 Certification (previously Faller B) and Structural Firefighter Certification.  Residency required within a distance from the City of Spearfish adequate to meet a 30 minute response time.

Librarian (part-time 20 hours)

Responsibilities:  The part-time Librarian will be assigned to weekends and evenings and will work 20 hours per week.  This position will assist with maintaining library programs and collections, as well as with helping the public access information and materials within the library, on-line, and from other available resources. 

Requirements:  South Dakota State Library Grade I library staff certification, which includes one of the following sets of qualifications, or approved equivalent:  Master’s Degree in librarianship or other related field; Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and completion of the South Dakota Library Training Institute; Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution with at least a minor in library science.  This is a part-time position which will work 20 hours per week, primarily weekends, with occasional evening shifts and the potential for additional hours.

Police Officer (full-time) 

Responsibilities:  City of Spearfish Police Officers will enforce local, state, and federal laws, prevent and suppress crime and accidents, and promote public safety through community policing principles.

Requirements:  Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED certificate, possession of a valid SD driver’s license with an insurable driving history, Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Training Commission Certificate or ability to obtain within one year from hiring date.  Preference will be given to candidates with certification.   Position will require availability to work all shifts, weekends and holidays.

Recreation and Aquatics Center:

Requirements:  Concession Assistants, Tennis Instructors, and Lifeguards must be 16 years of age or older.  All other positions must be 18 years of age or older before date of hire.  Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving history.  Starting wage $9.00-$10.00 per hour depending on position.  Hours can be weather dependent. 

Public Works/Parks Department Laborers:

Requirements:  Laborers will work 40 hours per week unless noted otherwise.   Applicants must be 18 years of age or older before date of hire.  Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving history.  Starting wage $11.00 per hour (Campground position wages vary depending on if campsite is provided).
