Location
The Spearfish City Campground is a beautiful shaded campground nestled along Spearfish Creek, one of the best trout fishing streams in the Black Hills.
The Campground is located adjacent to the D.C. Booth Historic Fish Hatchery and Spearfish City Park. Within walking distance of the Campground are:
- Downtown Spearfish
- Grocery stores
- Hardware stores
- The Matthews Opera House
- Public laundry facilities
Reaching the Campground
Do not use global positioning system (GPS) for directions due to season road closures and no turn around.
From Interstate 90, take exit 12, and travel west eight blocks to the Canyon Street stoplight (second light). Turn left and go nine blocks on Canyon Street, past the Spearfish City Park, and across the bridge.
Amenities
The Campground has restrooms, free showers and also contains amenities such as:
- Fire rings
- Firewood
- Picnic tables
- Pop and ice machines
- A sewer dump station
Types of Campsites
There are 61 sites that may be reserved - 56 full-hookup sites and five premium sites - as well as non-hookup sites.- The full-hookup sites include electricity (30 and 50 amp), water, sewer, and cable television.
- The premium sites offer the same amenities as the regular full-hookup but they are wider, longer, along the creek, and a little more private.
- There are approximately 150 non-hookup sites. Reservations for these are recommended.

Seasonal Operation Hours
The Campground is open year round with full amenities available from Monday of the first or second full week of May through October 1, all dependent on the weather and staffing availability. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Off season camping is available for a minimal fee, with self registration envelopes available at the Campground Office. Hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The dump station is available during the off season, but there is no rinse water.
